Bult Field Airport Expansion
Will County, Illinois

The Bult Field project consists of the expansion of the existing Sanger Airport to accomodate larger private jets. LRMG provided services critical to moving forward with the project. LRMG prepared the permit submittal to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers which included off-site wetland mitigation at Plum Creek Valley Ravines, Frankfort Park District Water Conservation and on-site work including soil erosion control plans, storm water Best Management Practices, and naturalized landscape installation, management, and monitoring plans.

Thorn Creek Conservancy Industrial Park
Chicago Heights, Illinois

By incorporating a “green” approach to economic development, this 100-acre property became a green industrial park with 30 acres of dedicated conservation area. It provides a central location for land conservation and environmental learning for Chicago Heights. Furthermore, it has the potential to stimulate the depressed economy of Chicago’s south suburbs and point it toward dependence on sustainable green technology.

LRMG greatly enriched the site using stormwater Best Management Practices [BMPs] to manage the floodplain and natural resources. These practices involved meandering Thorn Creek Tributary A, concentrating the wetlands along the creek, and improving the flood storage of the site. In the end, the buildable land area tripled to 60 acres while the wetland habitat area doubled to 30 acres In addition, the project was entitled with permits from the Chicago District Corps of Engineers, IDNR-OWR authorization, and is in late stages of the Land Development Ordinances review with the City of Chicago Heights.

The City of Chicago Heights has preliminarily agreed to work with the non-profit land trust, The River Basins Initiative, to develop and manage the conservancy area.
